Well, hello and welcome to Autumn Kern Photo!

I'm Autumn, a photographer living in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, with my husband, Josh, and our sweet pup, Berlin. I liked them both immediately because, in their different ways, they're ridiculously good looking. Aside from hanging with my small gang, I enjoy roaming the streets of my city, eating vegetables, making everyone laugh, and hoping people show up late to meetings so I can continue with the book(s) in my bag.  I'm currently attending graduate school and I think I can fairly be called a "forever student." Or, at the very least, a nerd. God's grace is my most favorite thing, and yet, it baffles me daily.

However, I think it's important that you know something more than a brief introduction. I think you need to know why I do this.

I don't have a mesmerizing story about picking up a camera and feeling "it", or whatever, and if we're being entirely honest, I'm a wedding photographer by accident. And I'm okay with that.

I studied history as an undergrad but I wasn't what professors deem a good historian. I was in it for the stories, the small glimpses into someone else's life - not so much the "why-this-country-invaded-this-country-and-caused-this-economic-collapse." It never occurred to me that I would put my degree to use post-college, but I do. I love telling the stories of the people who have graciously invited me into their lives all over the country, because I'm in the business of documenting history.

Or at least that's how I approach wedding photography. I understand the gravity and honor in photographing your wedding because one day, your great-grandchildren may find these photographs in a box in the attic and realize that without your promises, they wouldn't exist. Your family wouldn't be what it is. They'll realize you made history because your story is that significant.

If you're hoping for images that will make your heart swell for years to come, stick around and get in touch here. Let's make something wildly beautiful together.

SAM KERN, videographer

Have you ever seen a team that works well together? They seamlessly move around one another, brainstorm together for creative storytelling, and rarely get in one another's shot? A strong team means a strong story for your wedding day in both photo and video. I've worked with many wonderful videographers, but I've also worked with many terrible videographers whose philosophy and styling conflicted with my more natural, laid-back approach. Differing styles can really throw a wrench in the day. To solve this problem, I added Sam to our team in 2016. You can find out more information here

Video collection includes:
All day video coverage alongside of a photographer (up to 9 hours)
A short film of the day's highlights delivered via USBs
All raw video footage from the entire wedding day delivered via USBs
Extra: extended highlights for the short film

While he may be my husband and my second shooter, Josh is not my assistant or a lesser photographer. Back in the fall of 2011, I had little interest in photography but major interest in Josh Kern. He invited me to go on a little photography adventure one weekend and I eagerly accepted with camera in tow. Over the next two years, he taught me how to shoot in focus, think about light, and shoot in focus (I had a focusing problem!).

When I fell in love with wedding photography, Josh began to shoot alongside of me to help tell a fuller story for our couples. I like to think that we've mastered working together to create a memorable and complete wedding experience. Contact me here to book both of us together.

KRISTE JANCZYK, associate photographer & second shooter

In my third year of weddings, I ran into a slight problem: not enough dates for all of the inquiries! I hear from so many couples with such sweet stories, but there are a fixed number of dates for weddings each season. Unfortunately, it's impossible to take every wedding that lands in my inbox. So, meet Kriste; the first associate photographer to join our team.

Kriste is the creative force behind the blog, Rosemary & Thyme. When she casually mentioned that she might like to shoot alongside of me, my immediate reaction was to bring her on as an associate photographer. Now, couples have the option of choosing Kriste as their photographer for their wedding days if I'm booked, while I still process and edit their photos in order to maintain the AKP style. If you're interested in learning about how this works, shoot me an email here

Wait, wait, wait. What happened to Josh? What happened to "WE ARE THE KERNS"?
Great question, you. Well, Josh owns his own businesses (see here and his web design site is underway!) and they started growing at the same pace our photography business grew. Basically, Josh was working a 40 hour work week and then traveling and shooting each weekend alongside of me. Could you keep that up? Even better question: would you want to? Probably not. And we decided it would be better for him to step back and for me to hire (incredible) second shooters as needed.

Are you a solo act? Can I get two shooters?
I play well alone and with others. If you're set on having two, I'll hire one of my fellow full-timers to come with me and make magic at your wedding. If you're good with one, I promise you that you will lack nothing.

Why don't you offer multiple wedding packages?
Simply put, I don't believe in them. Your wedding is too important for me to care only about four or six hours of it.

Will you travel outside of Pennsylvania?
Yes, always. I've been making photos around the world since 2010. If you have a special place that you must use, or if you just live far away, always yes. Travel costs are added to my wedding coverage, but there's always a way to make it happen. No matter where you are.

Wait, are you moving to Europe and never coming back?
No, we are not moving to Europe. We did move to Lancaster this fall, so our Europe trip will be a short little diddy. Two months this Spring.

How do I book you for my wedding/engagement/lifestyle session?
Right here. Bookings come on a first-come, first-served basis. A non-refundable retainer - half of the payment total - is required at the time of booking to reserve your date. The other half is due the week before your wedding or session.

How long will it take to receive my photos?
It will take between 4-8 weeks to receive your online gallery.

Do you offer albums?
Yes, I do. I believe that your wedding photos deserve to exist outside of your computer and in a beautiful album that will tell the tale of your wedding day to you, your spouse, and future generations. Contact me for more information.

Do you maintain the printing rights to my photos?
I give you full printing rights to your photographs so that you can print them and use them (personally) whenever and wherever you wish.

What gear do you use?
I bring all professional Canon gear with me while shooting portraits and weddings, including 5d Mark ii, 5d Mark i, 35mm f/1.4L, 45mm f/2.8 TS-E, 50mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.2L II, (2) Speedlite 430 EX II flashes, and handful of SanDisk Extreme Pro 16 & 32GB memory cards.

Do you offer any discounts or free work for nonprofits/churches/military?
If you work for a nonprofit or church with a photography need, or are active military or a veteran, please contact me for discount/pro-bono opportunities. Money should never inhibit your passion to share your mission with your community, and I would like to thank you for your service. Let me help.

Do you Instagram?
Duh. Do you? We can follow each other around on the Internet, if you want.
